Florida snakes, along with the turtles, lizards, alligators and other reptiles are part of a complicated wildlife structure that plays an incredible role in the maintenance of Florida’s ecosystem. There are many species of Florida snakes. There are actually forty-four species living in unbelievably different habitats, ranging from salt marshes and fresh water marshes to dry uplands and coastal mangrove swamps to residential areas.

Only six Florida snakes are venomous and they happily live with their non-poisonous cousins. They even go into towns and cities too. The best way to stay out of trouble with snakes is to learn their morphology and therefore be able to identify the various Florida snakes. The best approach to adopt in relation to all snakes is avoidance.

The Coral snakes and pit vipers are by far the most dangerous of the Florida snakes. They are identifiable by quite a range of mutual characteristics. Pit vipers which include the Rattlesnake, the Cottonmouth and the Copperhead all have in common: vertical eye pupils, a v-shaped head and facial pit sensors: one between the eyes and nostrils and the others along each side of the head.

The venom of this type of Florida snakes is haemotoxic, which means that their poison works on the red blood cells, destroying the walls of the blood vessels and causing uncontrolled bleeding. Coral snakes however, use a neurotoxic venom, the toxins of which act on the body’s nerves causing paralysis.

Most of the snake bites reported every year in the United States are attacks by Florida snakes or by rattlesnakes to be precise. As their venom spreads rapidly through the body, the victim will almost certainly die within half an hour without the immediate injection of anti-venom.

A big exception in this group of Florida snakes is the copperheads, the venom of which rarely requires an antidote. Their toxins are the least potent and so they are considered t be the least dangerous of the poisonous Florida snakes.

Because of the threat they pose. poisonous snakes are the first kind to attract attention, however the most widespread of Florida snakes is the black racer, a non-toxic species that relies on very sharp fangs to capture its prey.

Despite the fact that home owners usually try to remove snakes from their gardens, experts point out that, without them, rodents would soon be so numerous as to be an even greater cause for alarm.

So, unless there are any special causes for worry, like snakes breeding in great numbers in your garden or shed, there is no real reason why you should interfere with the lives of these usually retiring, helpful animals.

by Jason Kendall

If you’re going through this material it’s possible that either you want to get into networking and you fancy taking your MCSE, or you are a knowledgeable person and it’s apparent that the next stage is the MCSE certification.

As you find out about training colleges, steer clear of those who reduce their out-goings by failing to up-grade to the latest Microsoft version. Over time, this will frustrate and cost the student much more because they’ve been taught from an old version of MCSE which inevitably will have to be up-dated pretty much straight away. Don’t be pushed into a training program without the right advice. Look for a computer training company who will make sure that you’re on an appropriate training track for you.

So, which are the questions we should pose to gain the understanding required? As it’s evident there are some quite tremendous opportunities for us all to consider.

Students hopeful to build a career in IT normally aren’t sure which route to consider, let alone which sector to build their qualifications around. As with no commercial skills in computing, how can most of us understand what any job actually involves? Contemplation on several factors is required when you want to dig down a solution that suits you:

* The type of personality you have and interests – which working tasks please or frustrate you.

* Is your focus to get certified because of a certain motive – i.e. is it your goal to work based from home (self-employment possibly?)?

* Is salary further up on your wish list than other factors.

* Always think in-depth about the time expected to attain their desired level.

* You will need to take in what is different for the myriad of training options.

To completely side-step the industry jargon, and reveal what’ll really work for you, have a good talk with an experienced professional; a person who will cover the commercial realities and truth and of course the accreditations.

All programs you’re considering really needs to work up to a properly recognised certification at the finale – and not some unimportant ‘in-house’ plaque for your wall. From the perspective of an employer, only the top companies like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (for example) give enough bang for your buck. Anything less just doesn’t cut the mustard.

Most commercial training providers only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Locate training schools where you can access help at all hours of the day and night (even 1am on Sunday morning!) Ensure you get 24×7 direct access to mentors and instructors, and not a message system as this will slow you down – constantly waiting for a call-back – probably during office hours.

Top training companies use multiple support centres around the globe in several time-zones. By utilising an interactive interface to join them all seamlessly, no matter what time you login, help is at hand, without any problems or delays. Search out a trainer that goes the extra mile. Because only 24×7 round-the-clock live support delivers what is required.

It’s likely that you probably enjoy fairly practical work – a ‘hands-on’ person. If you’re like us, the trial of reading reference books and manuals would be considered as a last resort, but it’s not ideal. Consider interactive, multimedia study if book-based learning really isn’t your style. Where possible, if we can utilise all of our senses into our learning, then we normally see dramatically better results.

Interactive audio-visual materials with demonstrations and practice sessions will beat books every time. And you’ll actually enjoy doing them. It would be silly not to view examples of the courseware provided before you make your decision. What you want are instructor-led video demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

It is generally unwise to choose training that is only available online. Connection quality and reliability varies hugely across your average broadband company, it makes sense to have disc based courseware (On CD or DVD).

You’ll come across courses which guarantee examination passes – inevitably that means paying for the exams when you pay for the rest of your course. But before you get taken in by guaranteed exams, think about this:

We all know that we’re still paying for it – it’s quite obvious to see that it’s been added into the full cost of the package supplied by the course provider. Certainly, it’s not a freebie – and it’s insulting that we’re supposed to think it is! We all want to pass first time. Going for exams when it’s appropriate and funding them one at a time has a marked effect on pass-rates – you prepare appropriately and are conscious of what you’ve spent.

Don’t you think it’s more sensible to hold on to your money and pay for the exam at the appropriate time, rather than coughing up months or even a year or two in advance to a training college, and also to sit exams more locally – rather than in some remote centre? Buying a course that includes payments for examination fees (plus interest – if you’re financing your study) is bad financial management. Don’t line companies bank accounts with extra money of yours just to give them a good cash-flow! There are those who hope that you don’t even take them all – so they don’t need to pay for them. You should fully understand that re-takes with organisations who offer an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are monitored with tight restrictions. They will insist that you take pre-tests first so you can prove to them you have a good chance of passing.

Shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds on ‘Exam Guarantees’ is naive – when study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams is actually the key to your success.

A question; why should we consider commercially accredited qualifications instead of the usual academic qualifications gained through schools, colleges or universities? Key company training (to use industry-speak) is most often much more specialised. The IT sector is aware that specialisation is essential to service the demands of a technically advancing workplace. Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe dominate in this arena. In essence, students are simply taught the necessary specifics in depth. It isn’t quite as lean as that might sound, but the principle objective is to master the precisely demanded skill-sets (alongside some required background) – without trying to cram in everything else (as academia often does).

Think about if you were the employer – and you wanted someone who could provide a specific set of skills. What’s the simplest way to find the right person: Wade your way through reams of different degrees and college qualifications from graduate applicants, having to ask what each has covered and which commercial skills they’ve acquired, or select a specialised number of commercial certifications that precisely match your needs, and make your short-list from that. You’ll then be able to concentrate on getting a feel for the person at interview – instead of having to work out if they can do the job.

Locating job security in the current climate is problematic. Companies can throw us out of the workforce with very little notice – as and when it suits them. However, a sector experiencing fast growth, with huge staffing demands (due to a massive shortage of trained staff), provides a market for true job security.

Reviewing the IT market, a recent e-Skills survey highlighted an over 26 percent deficit in trained staff. Or, to put it differently, this reveals that Great Britain can only find 3 certified professionals for each 4 job positions that exist at the moment. Properly trained and commercially educated new workers are as a result at an absolute premium, and it’s estimated to remain so for many years longer. For sure, this really is such a perfect time to train for the IT industry.

If it’s Cisco training you’re after, but you’ve not yet worked with switches and routers, then you’ll need the CCNA training. This will give you skills for setting up and maintaining routers. The internet is made up of hundreds of thousands of routers, and large commercial ventures with several different sites also use them to keep their networks in touch.

Because routers are linked to networks, find a course that covers networking fundamentals (CompTIA Network+ as an example – maybe with the A+ as well) and then do a CCNA course. It’s vital that you’ve got some knowledge of how networks operate before you start a Cisco course or you could find yourself a little lost. When you’ve qualified and are on the job market, companies will expect good networking skills to complement your CCNA.

Start with a tailored course that will take you through a specific training path before starting your Cisco CCNA course skills.

We can all agree: There really is no such thing as personal job security available anymore; there’s only industry or sector security – as any company can remove anyone whenever it fits the business’ trade requirements. Now, we only experience security via a fast rising market, fuelled by a lack of trained workers. It’s this alone that creates the right environment for a secure market – a far better situation.

Looking at the IT sector, a recent e-Skills study showed a more than 26 percent shortfall of skilled workers. Put simply, we can’t properly place more than three out of every four jobs in Information Technology (IT). This one fact on its own shows why the country desperately needs so many more trainees to enter the IT sector. As the Information Technology market is increasing at such a quick pace, could there honestly be a better area of industry worth investigating as a retraining vehicle.

So, which are the questions we should raise if we’re to get the understanding we want? After all, it’s evident there are many pretty superb prospects for us all to investigate.

Don’t forget: the actual training program or a qualification isn’t what this is about; a job you’re training for is. Many trainers unfortunately place too much importance on the piece of paper. It’s possible, in many cases, to get a great deal of enjoyment from a year of study only to end up putting 20 long years into something completely unrewarding, entirely because you stumbled into it without the correct level of soul-searching at the outset.

You must also consider your feelings on career progression and earning potential, and if you’re ambitious or not. It makes sense to understand what (if any) sacrifices you’ll need to make for a particular role, which qualifications are required and in what way you can develop commercial experience. Prior to embarking on a training programme, trainees are advised to chat over the specific market needs with a skilled professional, in order to be sure the retraining course covers all the bases.

Most training companies will only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later; most won’t answer after 8-9pm at the latest and frequently never at the weekends. Look for training with help available at any time of the day or night (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) Ensure you get direct-access to qualified mentors and tutors, and not access to a call-in service which takes messages – so you’re parked in a queue of others waiting to be called back at a convenient time for them.

The best trainers utilise several support facilities around the globe in several time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to seamlessly link them all together, irrespective of the time you login, help is at hand, with no hassle or contact issues. Never compromise where support is concerned. Most students who throw in the towel, are in that situation because of support (or the lack of).

The old fashioned style of teaching, utilising reference manuals and books, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If all this is ringing some familiar bells, find training programs that are multimedia based. If we can get all of our senses involved in our learning, then we often see hugely increased memory retention as a result.

Interactive full motion video involving demonstration and virtual lab’s will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And they’re a lot more fun to do. Be sure to get a demonstration of the study materials from your training provider. The package should contain instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

Avoid training that is purely online. Always choose CD or DVD based study materials where obtainable, so you can use them wherever and whenever you want – you don’t want to be reliant on your broadband being ‘up’ 100 percent of the time.

So, why might we choose qualifications from the commercial sector and not familiar academic qualifications taught at schools, colleges or universities? With 3 and 4 year academic degree costs becoming a tall order for many, together with the IT sector’s recognition that vendor-based training often has more relevance in the commercial field, we’ve seen a great increase in CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA accredited training routes that educate students for much less time and money. Essentially, the learning just focuses on what’s actually required. It’s slightly more broad than that, but the most important function is always to master the precisely demanded skill-sets (along with a certain amount of crucial background) – without attempting to cover a bit about every other area (as universities often do).

Assuming a company knows what they’re looking for, then they just need to look for a person with the appropriate exam numbers. The syllabuses all have to conform to the same requirements and do not vary between trainers (like academia frequently can and does).

Accredited simulation materials and exam preparation packages are a must – and must be offered by your training supplier. Confirm that your practice exams aren’t just asking you the right questions in the right areas, but additionally ask them in the way the real exams will structure them. It throws trainees if the questions are phrased in unfamiliar formats. Ensure that you ask for exam preparation tools that will allow you to test your understanding along the way. Practice exams add to your knowledge bank – then you won’t be quite so nervous at the actual exam.

A useful feature that several companies offer is job placement assistance. The service is put in place to help you get your first commercial position. But don’t place too much emphasis on it – it’s easy for companies marketing departments to make too much of it. Ultimately, the need for well trained IT people in this country is what will enable you to get a job.

However, what is relevant is to have help with your CV and interview techniques though; and we’d recommend any student to bring their CV up to date right at the beginning of their training – don’t delay for when you’re ready to start work. You’ll often find that you’ll land your first position whilst you’re still studying (sometimes when you’ve only just got going). If your course details aren’t on your CV – or it’s not getting in front of interviewers, then you aren’t even in the running! Actually, an independent and specialised local employment agency (who will get paid by the employer when they’ve placed you) is going to give you a better service than a recruitment division from a training organisation. Also of course they should know the local industry and employment needs.

A big aggravation of a number of training companies is how much people are prepared to study to get top marks in their exams, but how un-prepared they are to work on getting the job they’ve qualified for. Get out there and hustle – you might find it’s fun.
